Held at the end of June, the 3 hour race was to be another wet and dry race for Flick Haigh and Sarah Reader. Although both driver’s relish the wet conditions, it was a stressful time in the garage trying to get the correct tyre choices for the changing conditions.
Sarah went to the grid on slick tyres just as the rain started, but the rain increased at the start of the race and she was forced to change to wets 5 laps into the race. The track then started to dry and it was back in for slick tyres again.
At the midpoint of the race it started to rain again and the team changed the car back onto wets at the fuelling/driver change stop, only for it to immediately stop raining, necessitating Flick to return for slicks.
With a strong finish to the end, neither Flick nor Sarah could make up for the additional tyre stops, but once again proved that they had the best pace in the wet conditions.
As Sarah said after the race: ‘both Flick and I just love driving in the wet and it really is a great equaliser against the stronger French teams’
With Flick and Sarah currently 5th in class, the team are looking forward to the 9 hour race into the night at Aragon in Spain. Although hoping for rain again, we will probably be disappointed this time.
